While we were lucky enough to have a lot of fun with family for Thanksgiving, it's fun to make delicious turkey. Every year, even though we spend Thanksgiving with my family or my husband's I end up making a turkey anyway. It's too delicious not to. :) Here's my super tasty recipe for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any time turkey would be tasty.This time Theodore The Teddy Bear helped me out.
Ingredients You Will Need:These are for about 5 lbs- increase ingredients as needed.
Turkey (since it's just the 2 of us I just get a turkey breast about 5 lbs.)
1 Stick Butter
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
2 Tablespoons Salt (celery salt is great for this- though onion or garlic salt is good too.)
2 Tablespoons Dill
1 Tablespoon Rosemary
1 Tablespoon Thyme
1 Tablespoon Rubbed Sage
4 Garlic Cloves- sliced
1 Slice Red Onion
The day before fill a bowl with 2 tablespoons of salt and water.
Place turkey in brine bath. Let sit for a day before cooking.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a small pot on high heat place 1 stick of butter, 1/4 cup olive oil, 2 tablespoons dill, 1 tablespoon rosemary, 1 tablespoon thyme, 1 tablespoon rubbed sage, 4 garlic cloves- sliced, and 1 slice of red onion.
Once the butter is fully melted turn off heat. Place turkey in a pan and pour buttery mixture over turkey.
Cover with tin foil. For a 4-6 lb turkey breast it generally takes 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours- until inside of turkey is 165 degrees. Every 15 minutes lift up the tin foil and spoon buttery mixture over the top of the turkey again. It is now very moist and tender.
Now how do we get that lovely browned top? Take off the tin foil and set the oven to broil. Place the turkey on she shiny side of tin foil and wrap the foil slightly around the turkey so the light and heat is reflected off the foil and onto the turkey.
Place turkey in broiling oven until browned. Now my oven is terrible at broiling, but I was lucky enough to have gotten a toaster oven last year for Christmas. So if you do have one the absolute best is to place it in the toaster oven on "toast." It works so much quicker than the oven. Place turkey back into butter sauce and cover with sauce. Enjoy! So moist, flavorful, tender, and delicious!
