Free Knitting Pattern: Double-Sided Fish Hat Pattern

I love knitting things for friends and family. My husband requested a new hat last year and I was thrilled to help out. He wanted something extra warm that wind couldn't get through, so I decide to make it double-sided, reversible hat. He really likes fish and asked for them to line the rim. It was a lot of fun to make. He's been wearing it for a year and it looks great and helps keep him warm. We're both thrilled.

You Will Need:

3 Different Medium-Weight Yarn Colors /*Obviously you can use any colors you like, but I'll write them as black, blue, and white rather than color1 color2, ect because I find it helps keep things clearer.*/

Size 10 Round Knitting Needles
1 Cochet Needle- though it could be a spare knitting needle or stick or anything- it will just briefly hold one stitch at a time.
1 Yarn Needle

Directions:

/*First of all, don't panic, knitting something double-sided really isn't too bad. It's very similar to normal knitting.*/
Cast on 60 black stitches and 60 blue stitches, with the pattern of every other one: black, blue, black, blue, black, blue, ect.
When you knit always do k1 p1. (The knit will be of one color and pearl will be of the second color.)

/*We'll start with the black side. Have the black yarn behind your needles, like when knitting, and the blue yarn in front of your needles (towards you) like when pearling.*/
Row 1: Knit 1 stitch black, pearl next stitch in blue, knit next stitch black, pearl next stitch blue, ect. Complete row like this.
/*Now hold you blue yarn behind your neeles, like when knitting, and the black yarn in front of your needles like when pearling.*/
Row 2: Switch the pearling and knitting from before (but keep using the black yarn on the black stitches and blue yarn on the blue stitches. Pearl 1 stitch black, knit next stitch blue, pearl next stitch black, knit next stitch blue, ect. Complete row like this.

Follow fish pattern for next 5 rows- this will create 5 fishes on your hat.
Fish Pattern:
*****xxx***x
****xxxxx*xx
***xx*xxxxxx
****xxxxx*xx
*****xxx***x

Here it is written out, continuing the black first that I gave as an example before.
/*Fish Row 1: {Hold blue in front of needles and black behind the needles. (knit 1 black, pearl 1 blue) 5 times. Switch the yarn- hold the black in front of needles and hold blue behind the needles. (knit 1 blue, pearl 1 black) 3 times. Switch the yarn again- hold the blue in front of the needles and black behind the needles. (knit 1 black, pearl 1 blue) 3 times. Switch yarn again- black in front and blue behind. (knit 1 blue, pearl 1 black) 1 time.} Repeat all between {} until end of row.
Fish Row 2: {Hold black in front of needles and blue in back. (pearl 1 black, knit 1 blue) 4 times. Switch yarn- blue in front, black in back. (pearl 1 blue, knit 1 black) 5 times. Switch yarn- black in front, blue in back. (pearl 1 black, knit 1 blue) 1 time. Switch yarn- blue in front, black in back. (pearl 1 blue, knit 1 black) 2 times.} Repeat all between {} until end of row.
Fish Row 3: {Hold blue in front of needles, black in back. (knit 1 black, pearl 1 blue) 3 times. Switch yarn- black in front, blue in back. (knit 1 blue, pearl 1 black) 2 times. /*begin using the round needles as straight needles now- knitting back and forth.*/
/*scsppk2tp2t= slip white stitch onto working needle, slip black stitch onto crochet needle, slip white stitch onto working needle. Pass black stitch back from crochet needle to non-working needle. Pass both white onto non-working needle. Knit 2 stitches together. Pearl 2 stitches together.*/
Decrease Row 1: {(k1, p1) 6 times scsppk2tp2t} to end of row
Decrease Row 2: Pearl and knit as normal.
Decrease Row 3: {(k1, p1) 5 times scsppk2tp2t} to end of row
Decrease Row 4: Pearl and knit as normal.
Decrease Row 5: {(k1, p1) 4 times scsppk2tp2t} to end of row

Decrease Row 10: Pearl and knit as normal
Decrease Row 11: {(k1, p1) 1 time scsppk2tp2t} to end of row
Decrease Row 12: Pearl and knit as normal
Decrease Row 13: {scsppk2tp2t} to end of row

Pass white yarn through white loops and black yarn through black loops. Sew up part of hat that was made when knitting back and forth.

Finish off by sewing the bottom together using white yarn.

Fold the brim over to turn a 2-way hat into a 4-way hat!

Things To Do In Dayton: Ice Scating In Riverscape Metropark

Casey The Puppy Tutubuddy went to Riverscape Metropark to go ice skating! It was a lot of fun!The ice skating rink is outdoors, so it is lovely on a sunny, warm day. It has a gorgeous view of the Mad River while you skate!

The beautiful view from the ice rink.

The rink is under a covered pavilion and it feels like you're ice skating under a large tent.

There's always a lot of beautiful things to see and do at Riverscape Metropark!

Valentine Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Cake Recipe

Valentine The Teddybear Tutubuddy decided to make a delicious cake for Valentine's Day! It is so delicious! The chocolate and strawberries taste incredible. :) I took some in for my fellow teachers and they absolutely loved it.

Ingredients You'll Need:

Ingredients For A Dark Chocolate Cake

1 Bag Chocolate Chips

1 Box Fresh Strawberries
1 Can Strawberry Pie Filling

3 Cups Whipping Cream
1 Cup Strawberry Jam
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 1/2 Cups White Chocolate Chips
Pinch Salt
5 Drops Red Food Coloring (optional)

Directions:

Make a batch of Amazingly Moist Cake with dark chocolate cocoa powder. To turn it into a Heart Shape (Valentine found the directions on Pinterest) like Jamie did on C.R.A.F.T. pour half the batter in a square tin and half in a circular tin.

Bake the cake. Let the cake cool. As it does melt the chocolate chips- either using a double boiler or a microwave (make sure you stir every 30 seconds or it'll burn!) Pour melted chocolate on cakes.

Let harden- freeze if you have to. Now start the strawberry cloud mouse (It's similar to the Chocolate Cloud Mouse.) While cooling take 3 cups whipping cream and whip on high until it is whipped cream. Add 1 cup strawberry jam and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, red food coloring, mix on high.

Melt the 1 1/2 cups of white chocolate chips (again, as in the chocolate cloud mouse.) Slowly add to the strawberry whipped cream.

Slice strawberries.

Cut cake in half.

Cut circle in half (if you're doing the heart shape.)

Make into a heart shape.

What a black heart!

Lay out bottom of cake so chocolate layer is lying face-down. Put a layer of strawberries on the bottom half of the cake.

My heart is full.

Pour strawberry pie filling over fresh strawberries.

Place other half of cake on top.

My heart bleeds for you.

Ice with the strawberry cloud mouse.
You melt my heart.

Enjoy with your loved ones! Yummy! :D
Take a piece of my heart.
