Free Knitting Pattern: Double-Sided Fish Hat Pattern

I love knitting things for friends and family. My husband requested a new hat last year and I was thrilled to help out. He wanted something extra warm that wind couldn't get through, so I decide to make it double-sided, reversible hat. He really likes fish and asked for them to line the rim. It was a lot of fun to make. He's been wearing it for a year and it looks great and helps keep him warm. We're both thrilled.

You Will Need:

3 Different Medium-Weight Yarn Colors /*Obviously you can use any colors you like, but I'll write them as black, blue, and white rather than color1 color2, ect because I find it helps keep things clearer.*/

Size 10 Round Knitting Needles
1 Cochet Needle- though it could be a spare knitting needle or stick or anything- it will just briefly hold one stitch at a time.
1 Yarn Needle

Directions:

/*First of all, don't panic, knitting something double-sided really isn't too bad. It's very similar to normal knitting.*/
Cast on 60 black stitches and 60 blue stitches, with the pattern of every other one: black, blue, black, blue, black, blue, ect.
When you knit always do k1 p1. (The knit will be of one color and pearl will be of the second color.)

/*We'll start with the black side. Have the black yarn behind your needles, like when knitting, and the blue yarn in front of your needles (towards you) like when pearling.*/
Row 1: Knit 1 stitch black, pearl next stitch in blue, knit next stitch black, pearl next stitch blue, ect. Complete row like this.
/*Now hold you blue yarn behind your neeles, like when knitting, and the black yarn in front of your needles like when pearling.*/
Row 2: Switch the pearling and knitting from before (but keep using the black yarn on the black stitches and blue yarn on the blue stitches. Pearl 1 stitch black, knit next stitch blue, pearl next stitch black, knit next stitch blue, ect. Complete row like this.

Follow fish pattern for next 5 rows- this will create 5 fishes on your hat.
Fish Pattern:

****xxxxx*xx
***xx*xxxxxx
