Wegerzyn Gardens is part of the Five Rivers Metroparks and is a gorgeous place to visit! My favorite time to go is in late spring and throughout summer. The best part is there’s something for everyone and kids absolutely love the place! The best time to go is late morning to afternoon. If you go too early in the morning then the sunlight hasn't fully come over the hill yet.
1. Children’s Discovery Garden
The Children’s Discovery Garden is a fantastic place for children to explore, learn, and have lots of fun! Kids can run under the waterfall, explore the music maze, learn about plants, play with sand or mud, sit in a canoe, meet bush animals, and so much more! It’s more than just fun though, it is beautiful with a lovely water lily pond and a little hut with a sod top!
2. Arbor Garden
The Arbor Garden is gorgeous. It has roses in the spring and lilies in the summer. It’s a good, quiet place to go and enjoy the beautiful colors. It’s a lovely place to read a book.
3. Flower Lane
Flower Lane is comprised of Federal Garden, Memory Garden, and Victor Ries Memorial Garden. It is fun with beautiful flowers, shaped bushes, arches, and fountains. It’s a great place to walk and explore.
4. Swamp Forest
Swamp Forest is basically exactly what it sounds like- a forest often immerged in water! A boardwalk stretches through it so that visitors won’t get their feet wet and can look through the trees comfortably. It’s a great place to look at some scenery you thought was only in Louisiana or take a moment to relax.
The bike path goes through Wegerzyn Gardens along the river. It is lovely to walk, run, or bike on the path while listening to the water. Or stop for a moment and enjoy tossing pebbles into it.
Go and take a walk around the serine pond. It's a lovely way to unwind and relax!
Different artists have created plant art for Wegerzyn Gardens. The Living Room is a really cool structure made out of trees! It is a double ring of trees grown so that you can walk around (literally!) surrounded by trees or slip into the center for some seclusion. The Patrick Dougherty Exhibit is a winding maze of bent branches to create a cool, Alice in Wonderland or Dr. Suess structure. It is really cool to run around in! I’m curious to see what will show up next!
